About me

Hello! My name is Diana Dima and I am an artist. I draw since I know myself, I went to an art highschool in my hometown and then I graduated from an art faculty in Timisoara, Romania (where I currently live) and I have a bachelor's degree in fine arts. When I was small I started off drawing Sailor Moon and other animated characters from Cartoon Network & Fox Kids: Ed, Edd & Eddy, Looney Toons, X-men, Spiderman. In highschool I became very interested in comics and comic book art.

My artwork takes a critical view of personal, social, political and cultural issues. Often referencing to Japan culture, or artists such as Frank Miller, Frank Frazetta and H.R.Giger, my work explores the varying relationships between popular cultures and fine arts. I am concerned in portraying my inner experiences and I try to capture the very essence of beauty in the dark and the macabre.

Having engaged subjects as diverse as the feminism movement, goth/punk/metal music and creatures that are considered “ugly”, my work reproduces familiar visual and aural signs, arranging them into new conceptually artworks. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different artworks, they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each artwork determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings.

I have participated in common exhibitions such as:

  • The White Night for Product Creators & Designers
  • International Biennial of Miniature Arts
  • The “Iosif Iser” International Contemporary Engraving Biennial Exhibition
  • Filmsupply Challenge 2017

When I am not busy with my projects, I read a lot of comic books and books about psychology, asian culture, meditation, how to cook (believe it or not I don’t have enough patience to that, lucky that my husband has) and I love to spend time with my dog & cat.
